First Look
The sofa came in a large cardboard box. Take note that the base with the reclining mechanism is very heavy. Everything else is lightweight. You should have the delivery guys carry it for you to your living room. In my case, they just left the box by the door so I was forced to drag it all by myself. I managed in the end. Assembly took me only around 10 minutes.
Comfort & Quality
There are two plastic levers, one on each side. It goes without saying that as you pull the lever, you should push the cushion with your back as well. It’s a manual recliner after all. The mechanism works smoothly and without noise. After 6 months of use, the levers seem durable and don’t show any sign of breaking down.
Both ends of the sofa recline, while the center stays put. I love that they recline all the way back, almost reaching an angle of 180 degrees. I’ve had plenty of restful naps on the sofa. It is comfortable enough to sleep on and soft enough to just sit on. The headrest is plush, so I have no need for a pillow. The sofa has a good neck and lumbar support. The armrests, back, and seat all have thick cushions.
One issue I’ve had is that I find it difficult to get up from the sofa when it is reclined. It is not really a problem though. You’re supposed to get the sofa back up first. My husband, who is 6’2 tall, likes lying on the recliner. Although part of his feet would dangle on the edge of the footrest, he doesn’t mind that at all. He’s had it worse with our old recliner, which doesn’t support his feet at all. There is no gap between the footrest and the seat, so that’s great.
You don’t need to position the couch too far from the wall. When you pull the lever, the cushion slides forward and away from the wall. Our couch doesn’t occupy that much space in our small living room even if it’s reclined the whole way through.
The sofa is covered with brown bonded leather. It looks attractive and expensive. Although it’s not made of genuine leather, it feels good to the skin. It’s not thin, so the upholstery looks like it is going to hold up well. It is easy to clean too.
My Two Cents
There are a lot of reclining sofa on Amazon, several of them having a powered release mechanism. I was worried though that the motor may break down sooner or later. I opted for this manual recliner, and I’m happy with my choice. I’ve also checked out the cheaper options, but I was willing to spend extra to get the quality that I want. This sofa met all my expectations.
This sofa is definitely any couch potato’s dream come true!
