Platform Bed

[Review]Zinus Joseph 14 Inch Metal Platforma Bed Frame / Mattress Foundation / Wood Slat Support / No Box Spring Needed / Sturdy Steel Structure, Narrow Twin

First Things First

Zinus is known for packing their bed frames in flat boxes. The pieces are compact so they fit inside. If the delivery guys just happened to leave the box at your doorstep, you’re in luck. You can carry it inside without as much effort as you would with a bulky box. If you have to take it up a flight of stairs, you may have to ask another person to help you. You will also have no issue fitting the box through the door. You can put this together in the room where you plan to have it.

After unboxing the pieces, I immediately noticed the numbered labels on the parts. The labels work hand in hand with the written instructions. Even with minimal assembly experience, you should find the assembly a breeze. It even includes a hex key for you tighten the screws with. It is the only tool that I needed to put the bed platform together. There are spare screws in case you lose a few.

Comfort

This is a high-profile bed. This is, of course, for people who want their bed high off the ground. Being elevated from the ground can give a different sense of comfort. It also makes getting in and out of the bed easy. I wouldn’t recommend this for children simply because they are more prone to falling off the bed than adults. It would hurt more to fall off from a high bed like this than from a low-profile bed. The height makes it difficult for dogs and cats to jump to the bed. But if you like to keep your furry friends off your bed, getting a high-profile bed is a good idea.

The platform bed has wooden slats for support. You can use a box spring with the bed but I don’t suggest using one if you already have a high-profile bed. Box springs are used for adding extra height to any bed. With a 14-inch high bed, you don’t need additional height. The slats provide sufficient support to the mattress. The slats have velcro strips on them. The velcro keeps the slats from moving around. In addition, the surface of the slats comes with adhesive strips. You peel the protective stickers off so you can reveal the sticky adhesive. After putting the mattress on the bed frame, it sticks and doesn’t budge. This bed does not have a headboard and footboard. This means that there is nothing that would keep your bed from moving around or sliding off the frame. This is why the adhesive come very handy.

The adhesive is sticky at first but may eventually lose its hold on the mattress. You can buy adhesive strips to replace them. You can also choose not to peel the protective sticker off. If you rotate your mattress every few months then you are better off not using the adhesive strips.

The wooden slats protect your bed and extend its lifespan. This is by keeping them from sagging. The slats are thicker than I expected and seem very durable. They keep the weight distributed throughout the mattress. Slats also allow airflow into the mattress. They have even gaps between each other. This allows air to flow through the mattress.

Storage

One of the benefits of having a high-profile bed is the availability of ample storage space. This bed frame has 8 inches of floor-to-bed clearance. That is a lot of space. You can even fit a few luggages underneath. There are larger luggages that may not fit, but that’s alright. Under-the-bed storage works best when you have storage bins. It doesn’t matter if you have the plastic or fabric ones. They help you keep your things tidy and organized. They’re much better than shoving off old cardboard boxes under the bed. They do not look aesthetically pleasing and will make the space underneath the bed messy.

For storage bins, make sure to check the size that you’re getting. This bed has 8 inches of clearance. The bin should be a few centimeters shorter than that.

Under-the-bed storage is great for keeping clothes that won’t fit in your closet. You can also keep bulky coats that you would only need to take out in the winter. Bulky things like towels, comforters, sheets and the like can go under the bed too.
