First Impression
Just like many wood furniture, the set smelled like it came fresh from the factory. The odor is subtle and would go away by itself. Unless you have a very sensitive nose, you don’t need to leave the set outside to get rid of the smell.
Setup
The set comes with complete pieces. The only thing that requires putting together is the bed frame. This eliminates hours of assembly involved in setting up multiple pieces of furniture. You wouldn’t have to worry about getting the directions wrong or receiving missing hardware. The only problem about getting pre-assembled furniture is that they come in bulky and heavy boxes. You should ask the delivery guys help you get them into the room where you intend to have them.
The most fragile piece of the set is the dresser’s mirror. It was packed securely to ensure that it arrives in one piece.
Design
All pieces in the set feature the same grey finish with black steel edges. The combination creates an industrial effect for the bedroom. Greys go well with any color so the color of your wall won’t matter. The wood panels that make up the headboard and footboard create an interesting effect.
What you have to keep in mind is the style you’re going for for your room. If it’s modern then go ahead with the Ioana set. If it’s vintage then you should reconsider your choice and find a better fit.
Function
The bed frame feels well-built and has none of the wobble other beds have. The metal legs provide long-term stability to the bed. However, in terms of support, it is not sufficient on its own. It only comes with 4 slats. The good news is that it can be remedied. You can either get a box spring or a piece of plywood to serve as support for the mattress. Support is important for beds as it can help extend their lifespan and provide more comfort.
The dresser has 6 tall but narrow drawers. Meanwhile, the chest has 5 wider drawers. The chest’s size makes it a suitable place to keep shirts, towels, and blankets. Each drawer offers ample of storage. The drawers open and close smoothly with a little noise. The handles are not the removeable type and cannot be replaced. They are attached to the drawers but I don’t see any reason to change them. The corners are smoothened out.
The chest is as tall as the bed including the headboard. This isn’t very high. If you don’t like a towering chest with a fall hazard, you will find its height just fine.
The dresser has a spacious top. Cosmetics and jewelries can go on top. None of the drawers have built-in locks on them. It would have been better if it came with locks to keep valuables in. Anyway, the dresser, with the tall drawers, serves its purpose well. Taller items can fit inside.
The set offers 2 nightstands. The advantage of getting nightstands and bed from a single set is that their heights match without a hitch. You don’t have to worry about having a nightstand too low from the bed. You can easily reach for things on the nightstand.
The inside of the drawers come in the same color as the rest of the set. Furniture makers don’t usually pay attention to parts that are not visible but that is not the case for Roundhill. The inside feels as smooth as the outside.
The metal legs that support all 5 pieces of the set ensure that they stand solidly. They do not have felt pads attached to them so you have to get them yourself. The feet will scratch the floor without any sort of protection. I suggest buying pads before setting up the set in your home.
Price
The set is priced just right. You will spend more if you were to buy furniture individually. Not many brands offer complete bedroom sets so it can be tricky to find a good one. The durability, design and inclusions are all important factors to consider when looking for a bedroom set. Considering the price and all those factors, the Ioana set is a good buy.
