First Impression
Assembly is extremely easy. Even a first-timer would think the same. There are only 8 hex bolts to work with. You tighten them with a hex wrench that is already included in the box. The slats come pre-assembled.
Upon opening the box, the smell of wood greeted me. Some people may dislike the odor, but I find that pleasing. Nevertheless, it faded away after a few hours. The tabletop is made of real wood. I believe the rest is engineered wood. I’m impressed. For the price, I was expecting cheap materials and construction. The table showed the exact opposite. Many coffee tables at the same price point use particleboard or MDF. The bottom shelf is also more spacious than expected.
Colors
The color scheme of this coffee table is worth noting. The tabletop and the legs are the ordinary wood color with attractive wood grains. While the top screams vintage and traditional, the bottom shelf has a rustic appeal. The bottom has muted shades of brown, blue, yellow, and green. They look like pastel colors, which is all the rage today. The colors are subtle. Don’t worry about the colors being too bright. The table will look good in rooms with earth tones.
Finish
The table looks polished and shiny. I like that mugs and glasses don’t leave rings on the tabletop. You won’t need to use coasters. The table’s texture makes it easy to clean. A damp cloth would do. The wood does not scratch easily. If you have no pets or kids around, you will most likely be able to keep your table free from scratch.
The bottom slats clearly have a distressed look to it, but the finish is nice and smooth. I love the beautifully sculpted edges too. The corners not sharp, so they are safe for kids.
Stability
This coffee table is a solid piece of furniture. It doesn’t come as a surprise with the use of real wood. I am speaking from personal experience too. I’ve had this for a year already, and I don’t see any visible wear on the table except for a few scratches here and there. That’s fine by me though. Scratches on wood furniture are what I have come to accept as a mother of 2 energetic kids. The table does not wobble as well.
Final Thoughts
I’m in love with this Mestler coffee table from Ashley. It’s the size I needed for entertaining. This one checks off everything that I wanted from a coffee table. This definitely won’t be the last piece that I’ll get from the same collection. No need to think twice when it comes to this one!
