First Impression
As expected, the storage box had an odor that you typically get from new furniture that came straight out of a factory. This was not pungent at all so I didn’t mind. It dissipated in a few hours anyway. There is minimal assembly involved. By minimal, I mean very quick and simple assembly.
The box is made of MDF or medium-density fiberboard. It’s basically a composite wood that is stronger than particleboard. This makes the storage box sturdy though not as durable as real wood. Do bear in mind that for what you pay for, you can’t possibly get real wood. The chest has a good thickness to it. It’s not the thickest storage bench there is but it is very much worth the price.
Great Storage Option
The box can hold more than expected. The inside is spacious and can fit thick coats and blankets. You can put in anything under the sun. You do have to watch out for the box’s weight limit which is at 397 lbs. That is a lot considering the size of the box. You can keep toys, shoes, clothes, and tools inside. The storage chest can double as a bench too. The top is hard and solid enough to allow you to sit on top of it. You can have it on your entryway so that you and your guests can sit on it as you put on or take off your shoes. Pretty neat, right? It can even work as a foot stool in the living room or bedroom. Having this in the living room is smart as it gives you extra seating space for entertaining.
Take note that you cannot put a padlock on the box to secure your valuables. I suggest against putting in important documents and expensive items inside the box.
Safe for Kids
Thanks to the pair of safety hinges on the box, you don’t have to worry about your kids hurting their hands. When you push the top open, the hinges keep it in place. The lid won’t shut close without warning. To close the box, you would have to push down the top. If you’re expecting your children to open the box on their own, make sure to show them how to open and close the lid. This way, they won’t get into any trouble even if you’re not around to open the box for them. The hinges also make the box very easy to open. The lid opens smoothly and quietly. The hinges are not the cheap kind. I see that they would last very long without rusting or breaking.
The box has a smooth finish. It is safe for use around kids as there are no sharp edges.
Excellent Construction
The left and right side of the storage chest has a grommet on it to help you carry the box with ease. I do not recommend dragging the box across the floor as this may lead to permanent damage on the floor. As much as possible, lift up the box and bring it to the room where you plan to have it.
The only thing that I don’t like about this is that it doesn’t come with casters. Wheels would have made it way easier to move. Nevertheless, it’s not that difficult to carry the box using the cutouts on both sides. If you have plenty of heavy items inside, you should consider getting them out of the box first before carrying it. Otherwise, you risk breaking the bottom of the box with the weight of the things inside.
Do not keep the box where it can get wet or be exposed to excessive moisture. Keep it in a dry place. This would keep the storage chest in tiptop shape. The paint does not chip off. Contrary to what I expected, the surface does not scratch easily. This keeps the storage chest beautiful for a longer time.
