The Shalini bed frame arrived in a big box. It is not bulky at all and that came as a surprise. The box is heavy but easy to get into the house. It can fit in narror hallways.
Once you get the contents out of the box, you would only see a headboard. Everything else is inside. The headboard comes with a zipper and doubles as storage for the bed’s parts. This would come in handy when you have to take the bed apart for a move.
Setup took less than an hour. The box includes a ratchet tool and a complete set of screws. That is everything you would need to assemble the bed. The directions are short and sweet. They come with pictures for easy reference. There are only very few screws, giving you less room for confusion. All pieces fit without issues.
Support
For support, the bed comes with wooden slats. Velcro strips hold them in place. They are evenly spaced out across the bed. The slats are not as smooth as I would have liked but that doesn’t matter. You just have to be careful when you’re setting them in place. The slats provide enough support, so a box spring is no longer needed.
You won’t feel the slats underneath the mattress as long as it’s not too thin. The slats help keep the mattress’ shape in the long run. The slats don’t look like they are going to bow easily. However, that would very much depend on the weight of the mattress and how you use it. If you have children who jump on the bed then the slats would show signs of bowing sooner than later.
Design
The bed is set off with a beautiful upholstered headboard. The diamond stitching creates an elegant effect without looking too feminine. The fabric is knitted polyester. It’s not leather and yet it looks expensive. The material resists wear well. If I were to suggest anything, that is to keep your pillows flat on the bed to keep them from concealing the headboard. It goes without saying that having a taller mattress would mean that you will see less of the headboard.
The sides of the bed also feature the same upholstery. This complements the headboard and makes the whole bed look polished. This pretty much makes up for the bed’s lack of footboard. I want to point out that the mattress stays put even without a footboard.
The bed has very minimal clearance underneath. This is bad news for people who need storage space in their bedroom. However, short storage cubes would still fit. Having said that, the bed sits a bit low to the ground. That is nothing to worry about if you’re concerned about how hard it would be to get in and out of bed. While the bed is on the lower side, it won’t give you a difficult time. On the other hand, a thicker mattress would give you a higher bed. If you prefer a high-profile bed, getting a thicker mattress would do the trick.
Stability
The bed frame comes with legs in each corner and in the middle. The extra ones in the middle keep the platform bed more stable. The steel frame is sturdy and holds up very well.
The feet do not come with protection pads so they can scratch wooden floors. I suggest getting rubber ones before assembling the bed. This would ensure that the floor won’t get any scrapes from the feet.
This upholstered bed frame does not creak at all. It stays quiet even as you move around.
