Assembly
I was skeptical about getting a shelf without seeing it first. To my relief, it was a risk worth taking. I ordered the shelf and then got it a few days after. Everything came spotless and without any damage. This 5-tier bookshelf is not difficult to assemble. The directions were clearly written and easy to follow. I suggest getting another person to help you. It can get a bit tricky to do some of the steps yourself.
Style
The shelves feature a natural wood grain and glossy finish. The shelf is obviously not real wood but it doesn’t look cheap at all. Without touching it, the shelf can be mistaken for real wood. A handful of my clients would tell me that the shelf looks beautiful. I love the metal panel. It gives the bookshelf an industrial look. The criss-cross pattern creates a unique look. The black ladder-like frame adds an interesting flair to the entire shelf. I’ve found other modern shelves, but none has come close to how stylish this is.
Function
This Tribesigns shelf has ample of storage space. It has a lot of room for books, office supplies, plants, and other decorative items. Each shelf is wide but a little more depth would have been appreciated. The good thing about this is that it would fit easily in smaller spaces. It is a good fit for my office and it doesn’t occupy that much space. As with any furniture, I recommend taking up the measurement of your room before you go ahead and order.
The shelf would work great in the living room, bedroom, or even in the office. It can double as an accent furniture and storage solution.
The metal mesh keeps your items from falling especially when you don’t have the shelf against the wall. The bookcase feels very stable even if you don’t secure it to the wall. However, if you have kids, that’s a different story. They may try to pull the shelf towards them. I highly recommend that you attach the shelf to the wall to ensure their safety. If you don’t have kids, you can choose not to attach it. It would also be fine if you don’t have it against the wall.
My advice is that you put heavier bottoms at the bottom. This would keep the whole shelf from tipping over. The top shelves would work well for displaying decorative items. Storage baskets can help organize your things without making the shelf appear cluttered. Don’t put too much weight on the shelves if you want to keep them from sagging. Put on reasonable weight only and place the rest of your heavier items in a cabinet where it belongs.
Final Thoughts
If you like to stay away from traditional bookshelves, I highly recommend this. Tribesigns has done a great job mixing function and style. It’s a furniture you’ll gladly show off to your friends. I believe this display shelf should last for a long while. For the price, this is a steal!
