The Novogratz Brittany sofa futon is equally as beautiful as it is sturdy. We have had this for six months already. So far, it’s been serving us well. I would highly recommend this to anyone searching for a futon.
Assembly
I originally thought the armrests were missing from the box. It turns out they were cleverly hidden inside the compartment under the futon. Make sure you check out the compartment first before thinking about returning it.
The sofa comes with tools to put it together but if I were you, I would use my own tools at home. Using the provided tools is only advisable if you don’t have any. The assembly took me about 45 minutes. For a sofa, I think that’s pretty quick. I didn’t have any help. If you have an extra hand, you could even put it together in a shorter period of time.
Function
This couch’s convertible feature is easy to use. It only takes minimal effort to convert it from a sofa into a bed and vice versa. Even my 71-year-old mom could do it.
I love that the back is divided into two sections. You can have one side up and another laid flat. The back can also be reclined. It’s perfect for days when you just want to relax and do nothing but stare at the ceiling. I like doing that when I get home after a hectic day at work. When turned into a bed, there are two extra feet that provides extra support.
The couch seats four people. As a futon, it can accommodate two persons. However, I don’t think anyone can sleep well if you are bumping with someone.
The sofa feels firm. I actually prefer that. I would hate it if it was springy or overly soft. I like the idea that I can still break it in. It would get softer over time anyway. The fact that it started out firm makes the cushion less likely to wear out quickly. I got a foam topper to make the futon more comfortable. I only get it out when a guest would sleep over.
The only thing that I would change are the thin armrests. It’s not that comfortable to rest your arm or elbow on them. That shouldn’t stop you from getting this, though. That’s just a minor flaw.
The fabric feels soft to the skin. I’m glad it doesn’t feel itchy. My skin is on the sensitive side, so I definitely appreciate that. The upholstery is easy to wipe clean too. Spills don’t cause so much of a problem as the liquid just beads on top of the fabric.
Design
The tufting details on the cushion looks beautiful. The wooden legs create a nice contrast against the navy. I’m glad I made the right call with the color.
Like I said, we’ve had this for 6 months. Our couch looks as nice as it did since the day we got it. If you can afford a much prettier sofa then go ahead and buy it. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, this may just be the sofa futon you are searching for.
