[Review] DHP Chelsea Convertible Splitback Futon Couch with, multifunctional – Black

First Impression

The DHP convertible futon came in a large box. It’s surprising that it was far lighter than we expected. Everything you could possibly need is inside. It comes with an Allan wrench which you will need to put this together. I love how the legs were inside the zipped compartment at the bottom of the couch. If the directions didn’t mention that then I could have missed the compartment and the legs altogether. The setup is plain and simple. You unfold the couch, screw in the legs, and that’s it. Easy, isn’t it?

After putting this together, the couch looks nicely made. It looks exactly as pictured. I have seen better-looking faux leather but for the price, there is no point in complaining. Also, it’s the type of fabric that is very easy to wipe clean. That is a big plus.

Things I Like

We got this couch for our guestroom. It doesn’t take up a lot of space in the room. With this futon, we no longer needed to buy a sofa and bed separately. This is a great alternative to both if you have concerns about space. You get to save a lot of money too!

I am impressed with how easily you can convert the couch into a bed and vice versa. You just push the back and then lead it to the position that you want. You can tilt the back at different angles. The position that you set locks into place with a clicking sound. The best thing about it is that it has a split back. You can choose to recline just the half of the couch. You can also recline the entire back to turn it into a full bed.

The couch is firm, and I like that. I know that not everyone does. If your preference is different from mine then I suggest you get a mattress topper. We have the futon in our guestroom, so I have to anticipate that not all my guests like firm beds. I got a memory foam topper along with the futon. So far, guests who have slept over have had no complaints. Everybody seemed to have a good night sleep.

What I Don’t Like

I did say that I like firm couches, but this one is surely not something you’d sit on for hours. It is not as comfortable as a regular sofa. If you’re the type of person who sits for hours watching TV then look somewhere else. Or maybe it’s time to reconsider your activities and get moving.

Final Thoughts

We’ve had this for 8 months and had seen occasional usage. It is holding up well. I don’t see tears on the faux leather. It doesn’t stain easily. In case of spills, you can just wipe it dry with a cloth. The legs feel sturdy and can hold a lot of weight. We’ve had heavy guests and that didn’t pose any problem for us. For the price I got this futon for, I strongly believe I made a great choice.
