We purchased this daybed and trundle frame set for our son. A bunk bed was initially on our mind, but we decided against it because it felt too childish for his age. We felt a frame with a roll-out trundle would work best for him. It is something I can imagine my son growing up in. Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase.
Setup
The bed frame is easy to assemble. My husband put it together on his own in under an hour. You don’t need to supply your own tools as the bed comes with everything you need. There are no dings on the metal frame and slats. The wooden boards don’t have scratches on them either. All parts were well-protected during shipping. The parts have numbers on them. You just have to match and screw them together according to the instructions. My husband was whistling happily while setting it up. That’s how easy it was.
Quality
I love that the entire bed frame is made of steel. That includes the slats. I doubt wooden slats would hold up as well as ones made of steel. I won’t worry about them breaking even if my son decides to jump on the bed. The slats also support the mattresses well even without a box spring.
Standard twin mattresses would fit in the bed frame. I suggest you use a thinner mattress on the trundle. A 6- or 7-inch mattress would work well. A taller mattress would make it hard to pull out the trundle. On the other hand, we use an 8-inch mattress on the daybed.
The trundle can be pulled out easily through the casters. It pulls out smoothly. Even a child can pull it out by himself.
The pads under the bed are a nice touch. They keep the bed from slipping, which is great if you have an active sleeper in your house. They also protect my son’s new hardwood floors from scratches.
Function and Quality
I love the extra sleeping space that the bed provides. My younger sister’s son, my son’s favorite cousin, spends the night with us at least once a week. We used to have to set up a floor mattress every time he sleeps over. Not only is it less comfortable than an actual mattress, it is also less convenient to set up. With a trundle, all we have to do is pull the extra bed out. My son and his cousin love their bed very much.
This bed frame allows you to have 2 beds without 2 beds actually taking up space in the room. Just pull out the trundle at night and then push it in during the day for extra room. This bed frame would work in guest rooms as well.
Design
If I were to describe the bed’s style, I would say that it’s minimalistic. It’s made up of black metal panels plus a slab of wood on each end of the bed. It’s so simple that it would go well with any existing furniture in your room. I also love that the headboard and footboard look like real wood. The deep brown color gives the bed a sophisticated and expensive look.
